21They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
read the whole chapter of Matthew 22What part of the bible sayes render on to ceasar what is ceasars and to God what is Gods.?
This was when they were trying to trick Jesus by asking him about paying taxes and having the face of Caesar upon the money. They were trying to get him to say something against the law so they could accuse him of breaking the law. This is how deceitful mankind was and still is. Someone is always tricking someone and trying to twist words and meanings. Thats why everyone has different ideas. We twist things to suit our own agendas.
OOh I knew that one once..new testament, birth of jesus?
go biblegateway.com and type in caesar

Luke 20:22-25;
20:22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
20:23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
20:24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
20:25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
understand that Jesus says this quotation, in defense against religious critisicism to trap him in doctrinal knowledge.
also remember that Jesus requires of every living human being to give His entire soul to him. Not something partially or lukewarm.
My praise goes to the man/men that can do this without guile and with all faith
Matthew 22:21

Paying Taxes to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. ';Teacher,'; they said, ';we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?';
18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, ';You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19Show me the coin used for paying the tax.'; They brought him a denarius, 20and he asked them, ';Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?';
21';Caesar's,'; they replied.
Then he said to them, ';Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.';
22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

Paying Taxes to Caesar
13Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14They came to him and said, ';Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15Should we pay or shouldn't we?';
But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. ';Why are you trying to trap me?'; he asked. ';Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.'; 16They brought the coin, and he asked them, ';Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?';
';Caesar's,'; they replied.
17Then Jesus said to them, ';Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.';
And they were amazed at him.
Mark 12
Paying Taxes to Caesar
20Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be honest. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor. 21So the spies questioned him: ';Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. 22Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?';
23He saw through their duplicity and said to them, 24';Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?';
25';Caesar's,'; they replied.
He said to them, ';Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.';
26They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
Luke 20
Mark 12:17
